Supermicro has unveiled its newest and most sophisticated server collection, the X14 range. This impressive lineup is designed to deliver superior performance, efficiency and adaptability. Building on Supermicro's leading Building Block Solutions, the X14 integrates rack-scale capabilities and advanced liquid cooling systems. These servers cater to the rigorous demands of AI, HPC, Cloud and Edge applications, all powered by the forthcoming Intel Xeon 6 processors, previously known as Sierra Forest and Granite Rapids.
The X14 series represents the latest evolution in Supermicro's Intel Xeon-based platforms, which have been widely adopted in large-scale deployments across multiple sectors. This extensive portfolio includes over 15 system families, each optimised for specific workloads ranging from GPU-accelerated AI and HPC to versatile data centre and cloud rackmounts, as well as efficiency-focused Edge and telco applications.
The X14 series boasts exceptional flexibility with support for the new generation of Intel Xeon 6 processors. Formerly known as Sierra Forest (E-cores) and Granite Rapids (P-cores), these processors offer advanced workload optimisation at the processor level.
Ready for rack-scale integration
The X14 range offers the broadest array of workload-optimised servers in the market, forming the foundation for bespoke solutions at rack scale. With a global production capacity of 5,000 racks per month, including 1,350 liquid-cooled 100kW racks, Supermicro can design, build, validate and deliver fully customised, workload-optimised rack-scale solutions. This ensures swift deployment of the most advanced AI hardware, with lead times as short as two weeks.
Modular design and open standards
Supermicro's X14 systems are built on the modular design platform of the Supermicro Building Block Solutions, allowing easy customisation of components to meet specific power, storage, I/O and acceleration requirements. As early adopters of new industry standards and open architectures, including OCP 3.0, DC-MHS, OAM, ORV2, OSF, Open BMC, CXL and EDSFF E1.S and E3.S storage form factors, Supermicro ensures that X14 systems can adapt to evolving technological needs.
Key features of the X14 range:
Universal GPU: Adaptable, modular and standards-based systems
X14 Universal GPU systems feature a modular, open design that accommodates a variety of industry-standard GPUs. This setup allows for diverse configurations tailored to specific workloads while maintaining a unified server architecture, thereby reducing infrastructure complexity and simplifying future upgrades. The chassis are engineered for ease of maintenance, featuring hot-swappable, tool-less components and optimised for thermal efficiency to support the latest GPUs with power requirements up to 700W TDP.
PCIe GPU: Flexible solutions for AI and media
Designed for HPC, AI, 3D simulation and advanced graphic design, X14 PCIe-accelerated solutions facilitate the development of 3D environments, digital twins and more. Each 5U chassis can accommodate up to 10 double-width GPUs, with networking slots that support connectivity speeds up to 400Gb/s, making them ideal for high-performance clusters. For enhanced efficiency in demanding applications, optional direct-to-chip liquid cooling is available.
8U SuperBlade: High-density multi-node solutions
Optimising rack density, the X14 8U SuperBlade architecture fits up to 120 dual-processor servers in a single 48-rack setup, significantly reducing cable clutter by up to 95%. The inclusion of optional direct liquid cooling supports high-power CPUs, ensuring the lowest possible Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and optimal Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
6U SuperBlade: High-capacity memory architecture
Engineered to support up to 100 servers per rack, the X14 6U SuperBlade offers the option for direct liquid cooling for high-power CPUs. This architecture maximises performance and capacity, accommodating up to 32 DIMMs for DP and 16 DIMMs for UP configurations. Additionally, it supports up to 20 GPUs for AI/ML, graphics and 3D rendering, along with up to 10 NVMe SSDs for applications like vSAN and big data analytics.
Hyper: Exceptional performance and flexibility
X14 Hyper series delivers next-generation performance in proven 1U and 2U form factors. Its modular design allows for customisation of storage, expansion slots, network and power supplies, balancing compute, storage and expansion in a tool-less rackmount design.
Hyper-E: High performance for edge data centres
Delivering the same high performance and flexibility as the Hyper series, Hyper-E systems are designed for telco and micro data centre deployments. Its mid-depth chassis and front I/O simplify integration into existing infrastructure, with optional DC power and a carrier-grade design.
BigTwin: Leading multi-node architectures
Equipped with dual Intel Xeon 6 processors per node, the X14 BigTwin systems offer a tool-less, hot-swappable design available in high-density (2U4N) or storage (2U2N) configurations. This setup increases compute density and reduces TCO, with options for NVMe Gen5 storage controllers and M.2 drives for boot/OS or metadata/caching.
GrandTwin: Optimised for single-processor performance
GrandTwin architecture focuses on maximising single-processor performance with a flexible modular design. Accessible from the cold aisle, it simplifies installation and servicing. Various storage and networking options are available via front AIOM modules.
CloudDC with DC-MHS: All-in-one rackmount platform
X14 CloudDC systems offer excellent I/O and storage flexibility, adhering to OCP DC-MHS specifications for large-scale enterprises and cloud service providers. Features include tool-less brackets, hot-swap drive trays, redundant power supplies and comprehensive security features.
UP WIO: Diverse I/O optimised servers
Offering a wide range of I/O options, X14 WIO systems allow users to tailor storage and networking to their specific needs. These systems enable custom configurations, improving efficiency and providing cost advantages.
Telco/Edge: Compact systems for telco deployments
Supermicro's innovative solutions address the expanding embedded markets, offering capabilities like virtualisation, AI inferencing, network connectivity and more in space and power-efficient configurations.
Supermicro's X14 portfolio sets new standards in performance and efficiency. Integrating the latest Intel Xeon 6 processors, these systems provide the flexibility and customisation needed to meet the evolving demands of modern enterprises. Supermicro also offers pre-launch access to the new X14 systems through various early access programmes. The JumpStart programme provides free remote access to X14 servers for testing and validation, while the Early Ship Programme delivers production-ready X14 systems to select customers before the official launch.
